The prime reason the Google home page is so bare is due to the fact that the founders didn’t know HTML and just wanted a quick interface.

I believe that google has the perfect page, because its soo light, I am using dial-up and it loads in 1 sec.. other search engines like MSN and Yahoo are much much slower, although they use same kind of template.
